Homemade Margherita Pizza Recipe

 

 



Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 2 ¼ tsp (7g) active dry yeast
  • 1 ½ cups (360ml) warm water
  • 3 ½ cups (440g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

For the Toppings:

  • 1 cup (250ml) tomato sauce
  • 2 cups (200g) shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Pinch of salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough:

    • In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil, then knead for 8–10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
    • Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise for 1–2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
  2. Preheat the Oven:
    Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). Place a pizza stone or baking tray in the oven to heat up.

  3. Roll Out the Dough:

    • Punch down the dough and divide it into two equal portions.
    • Roll out each portion into a thin circle on a floured surface.
  4. Assemble the Pizza:

    • Spread a thin layer of tomato sauce over the dough.
    • Sprinkle mozzarella cheese evenly over the top.
    • Add fresh basil leaves and drizzle olive oil over the pizza.
    • Season with a pinch of salt and pepper.
  5. Bake:
    Transfer the pizza to the hot pizza stone or baking tray. Bake for 8–12 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.

  6. Serve:
